whether Chatuchuk and other shopping areas will be closed? Anyone pls advise before i cfm my flight.

couple of years back i went during the tsunami to BKK was from 28th dec to 2nd jan, the shopping areas were definitely open, they will not be closed, this is the time for them to earn money as lots of visitors are also going there for their holidays. No worries, enjoy your time there!!! if you are still bit worried, call a travel agency to ask them, they will give you more advice.

Friday is a holiday so we don’t have to work! So I was planning to go out and party on Thursday, but maybe there is no alcohol because of the Buddha Day. By the way! Where is theparty going to be in Bangkok???

Excellent question. As a rule most establishments with entertinment and liquor licences close the day before and the day of a national holiday. There are several factors that could change a paticular establishments hours or being open period. One of the biggest id how much money they pay the police to stay open, or how much money the police are willing to lose by making them close. I would look for the big venues to try to stay open thursday, some may be shut down. Most bars that serve food should be open thursday though. Hope this helps. I’ll keep my ear to the ground here and let you know more if I can.

i’ll b goin bangkok for holiday on 20/11/08.Is it safe there?becoz today(13/11/08),there is still bombing in the city..

This bombing yesterday did not seems to be part of the protest against the government. It seems to be the act of people trying to scare vendors at a large local open air market who were protesting against increases in rental space at the market. The bombing was not directed at tourist it happened at 1:30 am however, of course tourist could have been in the area. Life is full of risk, but I believe that your safer in Bangkok then in any large city in the USA. And, yes I would still come if I were you

I want small, figurine size-ish golden coloured Buddha statues. (small enough to sit in my palm comfortably. Preferrably close to Holiday Inn Silom. Tomorrow is my last day in Bangkok so I don’t want to waste time looking all over. How much do they cost and what is the best way to get there? (from Holiday Inn Silom)

There’re antique shop very close to your hotel walking toward the express way, or bangrak. I’m pretty sure they have it, otherwise loads of antique shops around there. The catch is you may not be able to get it out of Thailand. Check first, I don’t think you can take Buddha statue out of the country without written permission.

Just the money needed in Bangkok itself (not inc airfares and accom) Just Shopping!!!

The sky is the limit. You could go cheap or rather inexpensive and shop around Pratunam or the Watergate and buy in bulk or shop the malls for t-shirts and jeans. Or go to the Siam Paragon and shop Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, etc. at the same or near same prices as in the USA. Depends on the number of days you are there. And what you are looking for. A pairs of jeans made in thai costs USD 5 a pair in Lotus/Tesco. Men's shirt USD 3.00. Go through MBK or Mah Boon Khrom center near Pratunam and you might find the same price or more there. You will have to be more specific as what you will be shopping for. At MBK Tokyu department store always seems to be having a sale. Tokyu carries international named brands so the regular price is similar to US prices at least for the mens clothes. Also, some of the malls stores are offering 10 percent or more off if you are a tourist as incentive to shop there. The website below will direct you to the Pratunam Market, floating market, Chatuchak Market etc.

Good luck
