Just the money needed in Bangkok itself (not inc airfares and accom) Just Shopping!!!

The sky is the limit. You could go cheap or rather inexpensive and shop around Pratunam or the Watergate and buy in bulk or shop the malls for t-shirts and jeans. Or go to the Siam Paragon and shop Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, etc. at the same or near same prices as in the USA. Depends on the number of days you are there. And what you are looking for. A pairs of jeans made in thai costs USD 5 a pair in Lotus/Tesco. Men's shirt USD 3.00. Go through MBK or Mah Boon Khrom center near Pratunam and you might find the same price or more there. You will have to be more specific as what you will be shopping for. At MBK Tokyu department store always seems to be having a sale. Tokyu carries international named brands so the regular price is similar to US prices at least for the mens clothes. Also, some of the malls stores are offering 10 percent or more off if you are a tourist as incentive to shop there. The website below will direct you to the Pratunam Market, floating market, Chatuchak Market etc.

Good luck

Now because of the situation there and everyting else is uncertain we are thinking of at least heading to Pattaya. Does anyone have any idea how we can get to Pattaya from Singapore without passing Bangkok? Thank u. (Badly need a holiday!!!)
Hi there, so is it possible to reach Pattaya from Phuket by flight? Do u think it is possible to reach Pattaya from BBM) Battambang Airport in Cambodia? Thank u

Consider another destination. The situation is not stable in Thailand and the Singapore government has advised its citizens not to to travel to Thailand.

I would not be advising any of my friends or relatives to come to Thailand at this point in time.

If the airports are closed in Pattaya or Phuket then you might be facing an extended and longer stay than you anticipate.

I've nvr been to either Phuket or Bangkok. But would like to go for a 4D3N holiday which has shopping, food n preferably with beach as well. Does these two offer same levels of shopping malls/markets ? N which places in Phuket n Bangkok ?
Thanks for all of ur answers. Now I need to decide which 1.

Phuket has a few malls, but nothing compared to Bangkok, the Central World Plaza Mall and Siam Paragon are among the largest in the world, and there are dozens of other large and very large malls, not to mention hundreds of outdoor markets and the world's largest "outdoor" market, Chatuchak or JJ's. There are no beaches in Bangkok, the closest beaches are about an hour and a half away, and aren't nearly as nice as the beaches in Phuket, which is an island and surrounded by very nice beaches. Same for food, there are plenty of restaurants in Phuket, but thousands more with more choices in Bangkok. Bangkok is a huge congested city, Phuket is a beautiful tropical island that is crowded in a few areas, you can't compare the two places.

Im going to Thailand in June.

I wanna stay in a nice hotel for mayb 2 nights of the holiday.

I am staying in bangkok first then Koh Phi phi then back to bangkok.

Will it be more worthwhile staying in a nice hotel in bangkok&cheap hut in Koh Phi phi or a luxurious beach hut in koh phi phi and reasonable hostel in Bangkok?

Your questions so far haven't show me your too smart. Ho and live in a hut and then spend over $200 for a 5 star hotel. Why not just get a three star hotel for about 1,000 to 1,500 baht a night for your entire trip.

Leaving for Bangkok soon for 1 month, then I'll fly to Oz and stay there for one month when I will return home. Will I need holiday visas?

If you're American, you should be OK for Bangkok; you'll need a visa for Australia. You can get it online: http://www.evisastoaustralia.com/

Remember, some governments require your passport be valid for 3 or 6 months after your dates of travel. This isn't a US requirement. You can check with the US State Dept for foreign entry requirements: http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/brochures/brochures_1229.html Check with the Embassy they list too… sometimes there is more information there.
